Over 5 Million Hondurans Live in Poverty

poverty in hondurasTegucigalpa – Almost five million Hondurans live below the poverty line, according to a report from the Ministerial Forum for Development in Latin America, published Tuesday.

Honduras, with a population of 8.2 million, is one of the poorest and most unequal countries in Latin America, the report states.

Most of those people live in completely precarious conditions in rural areas, where more than 1.7 million households subsist on 1.50 USD daily.

Only 10 percent of Hondurans possesses almost 50 percent of total income, according to the UN agency’s investigations.
