On the night of February 12, 2010, compañeros HERMES REYES, a member of MADJ_Central, was attacked and wounded after leaving a meeting of the FNRP in the city of Siguatepeque in central Honduras. Unknown persons driving a blue Toyota double cabin pick-up truck passed Reyes as he was in the street, hitting him in the face with a cable and producing multiple wounds. The agressors yelled, “We know that they are here”, before leaving. Companero Reyes was taken to a hospital where he received medical attention including various sutures of his wounds, among them 4 stitches just below his right eye.

MADJ, an organization in resistance, denounces this attack as one more of the tactis of intimidation and pressure put into place by the repressive apparatus of the Honduran government on the orders of the extreme right which took power in Honduras with the coup d’etat of June 28, 2009. MADJ asks national and international human rights organizations to take note of this report and to lend themselves to protecting the well being of Hermes Reyes and all the men and women in resistance in Honduras. MADJ points out the responsibility of the Honduran State in these acts of violence. MADJ reiterates that no act of intimidation, of terro, or of violence will make us give up our struggle for a just Honduras with full participation by the people, repspect of Human Rights and free of coup-makers.
